Space Gallery is hosting its second fashion market event presented by Fallene Wells (Let Em Have It!), 8 local designers, models by Donna Baldwin Talent, DJ Segue, and I've been told, champagne! Classy!! Designers will be on hand after to market and sell the clothes so you can leave the runway party with the runway looks - but still come dressed to impress, please. "Tattoo Detour" at Robischon Gallery 7/18

Robischon always presents a wonderfully sophisticated art show. It feels weirdly educational as well as brings a sharp representation of local and global contemporary art. Balas' work is also being shown at mca/denver and an opening reception will be held in the artist's honor on the 18th as well. I guess it's a Robischon/MCA night for us. Sounds cool....especially if you're going to the rooftop cafe!

Communikey/MATMOS at the Boulder Theater - 7/15

Originally my blog was Boulder/Denver pARTies until I moved to Denver full-time and decided that my time was better spent going to Denver-based events. Fortunately, Communikey (Boulder) makes it here today because the things that they are doing in the progressive music/art community feel like they should be in the "big city". Communikey has hosted a few events since their big debut of the electronic arts festival this past April, (of which I had the pleasure of being a venue sponsor when I was the events director at BMoCA) but this one seems like another great festival-like contributer to the somewhat predictable Boulder music scene.

The duo of Matmos' cosmic pop, synthesized music will perform at The Boulder Theater on Tuesday, July 15th accompanied by the interactive, public, digital art installation phonografitti. Matmos, who has toured with Bjork, usually presents its audience with something like "contact microphones brushing human hair, the pages of a Bible turning, rock salt being crunched underfoot, aspirin tablets being thrown at a drum kit from the other side of a room, amplified crayfish nerve tissue and — oh yes — the very real sound of human fat being sucked through tubes during liposuction surgery." - Sound on Sound Magazine

Supposedly works from their new album, Supreme Balloon, will bring mostly tempered synthesizer tracks.

This show should bring you unique entertainment as well as the opportunity to meet and interact with some of the hippest people that live in the Boulder area. This all ages show is $15 and tickets can be purchsed at the door. I'd love for it to sell out but I don't believe that it will.

It may just be my undying love for Andy Warhol's work but I love anything that has to do with soup cans and art, (especially soupcanart).

Check out Andenken again this Thursday and view the work of Jef Kopp (above), Sandi Calistro, and Ian K. Millard. Other artists showing include; Kill Pixie (Australia), Fafi, Koralie, Alexone and Amandine Urruty (France). As always they'll have drinks, a Dj and a fire sculpture.

VIS-A-VISAGE @ Object + Thought 6/27

I have really come to like the shows and the vibe that Object + Thought has been putting out this year in the RINO District of downtown Denver. The location of the space is little out of the way for the regual art hoppers, but I like that. It gives them more room to space themselves from the hecticness of the typical art event scene of the city.

Friday, June 27th at 6pm, O+T will present Vis-A-Visage an intern-curated group show (nice!) that will not only feature some of our best local talent but some international flavor as well from Germany and Canada. Plus, we have the return of local fav Jenny Morgan back from NYC. I've heard they have special snacks for us this time as well as more beautiful botanical scultures from the impressive Vain and Babylon. I'm excited for this show. You are bound to see lots of interesting Denver creatives there too.

Lemonade On Fire @ Sliding Door Gallery - 6/6

There is lots to see of our favorite Denver artists this June First Friday, but don't forget to go to Sliding Door Gallery to see the lasted works by Tony Zellaha and Nathan Abels. Tony's work (pictured) gives a glimpse into simple lands governed by shape, color and space giving way to an underlying sense of the mystery. Nathan's paintings are brooding and atmospheric and describe a sense of uncertainty primarily through landscape-based imagery.

New Exhibition Opening at The Lab 5/22

Check out the new exhibit at The Lab featuring the unique pairing of recent contemporary paintings with early silent nonfiction films. Bedroom Paintings refers to painting that aspires to immediate pleasurable effects. Silent Films shows films from a historic period but emphasizes the aesthetic power of the films versus its film history significance. The Lab will ask its viewers to reflect on the extent to which history matters when looking at images......yes, you need to see this in person. The Lab offers a beautiful space and they always puts on a qwerky yet sophisticated event. (Plus the people are pretty cool too.) Don't miss an opening at The Lab!
